SOC MEMBERSHIP FOR 2008
Changes to the membership structure of the British Orienteering Federation (BOF) were introduced on Jan 1st 2007, and these changes, together with event entry fee changes, may affect the way that you consider membership. Any membership taken out now will be valid until Dec 2008.
The most tangible benefit of BOF Membership is the discount on entry fees for district and regional events that will be available to senior (age 21 or over in 2008) participants.
BOF Local
Membership of SOC will in 2008 attract a discount of £2 for seniors
at district and regional events organised by clubs within the South
Central Orienteering Association (SCOA) region. Note that this
does not include national events and does not include eligibility to enter
the British Championships, but does include eligibility to enter the JK (see
Note 1).
BOF National Membership of SOC will in 2008 attract a discount of £2
for seniors at district, regional, and national events in all regions,
and eligibility for the British Championships and JK (see note
1).
In practice,
this will mean that base entry fees for seniors will rise, and the discounts
will bring them down to existing levels.
Junior entry fees
will remain at their current levels, and no discounts will apply. Junior entry
fees will therefore be unaffected by these changes, but note that the eligibility
criteria will apply.
Due to the geography
of the SCOA region, the majority of clubs to the east and west of SOC are
not in SCOA, and therefore discounted entries to those clubs' events will
not be available to BOF Local members of SOC. This may affect their choice
of membership.
SCOA clubs are:
|
Basingstoke and Andover Orienteers (BADO) |
Southampton OC (SOC) |
