Age classes or open (colour) classes

Now that a number of regular 'regional' events have tried following the BO suggestion of using open classes rather than the previous age classes, is it changing how you enter or how you view the results?

Ranking

Im not sure its helping towards getting an accurate ranking list. I guess Im one of the people running 'the right course', but some of my class competitors have chosen to run Black this weekend, which actually weakens the strength of the competition. Its pretty impossible to get a good ranking score without beating those already above you. I guess the single ranking list is still in progress....

Views should and have been provided of course and class results - so I dont think thats been a problem.

Is there a consequence that the start window needs to be longer to accommodate the middle classes/courses? Perhaps Bill and Barbara will let us know if that might happen with the Classic this year.

Remaining competitive

Personally I like the system. I like the flexibility to select a shorter course (for example because I'm injured or need to get back early for child minding) but still feel competitive. I also like the fact that, when I move up age classes, I won't feel quite so obliged to run "the right course for my age".
