British Schools Orienteering Champs

On Sunday the Currie family headed up the M3 to Black Park, near Slough, for the British Schools Orienteering Association Championships. The courses are typically easier than the children would normally expect to run for their age class. Duncan whizzed round his white course in 11 minutes and Emma taking just a little longer for her yellow. With most of the area out of bounds, we went for a walk around the lake and had some lunch whilst waiting for the rest of the field to finish. Unfortunately, Duncan was just pushed out of the medals to finish fourth with Emma coming in a creditable ninth. It was great to see so many children participating in the event with SYO bringing down two coachloads from schools in their area!

Those with sharp eyes may read the "No access for filming vehicles" sign in the background. Black Park is adjacent to Pinewood Studios and has featured in many films over the years from the Hammer Horror films to Harry Potter and Captain America. Unfortunately, the delayed departure of the most recent film set led to some last-minute changes which weren't reflected in the control descriptions and a number of controls had to be voided. Full results and more photos are available.

Romsey Maprun Tuesday 26th November

The next Club MapRun is on Tuesday 26th November at 7pm. This time we'll be using a 1:5000 "PseudO" map - it looks a bit like ISSOM but drawn automatically from Open Street Map data. The 45 minute score will take you to parts of Romsey you won't have been before and all under the town's Christmas lights.

Meet at Lortemore Place car park ready for the mass start. Afterwards we can retire to the Phoenix for a drink, chat and pub grub.

If you're coming please let me know by completing this form.

Want to take a peek at the Romsey PseudO map?

See you there!

Calling All Helpers!

Just when we think we have one event out of the way another one comes along!

You will be aware that the club has an event at King's Garn on Saturday 7 December 2019. If you are able to assist on the day please can you let me know. If you can also confirm whether you would prefer to help with an early or late shift that would be useful. The normal half price run for helpers  will apply.

Unfortunately the planner will be unable to get involved with the forest team so assistance with controls will be gratefully received.

If you are a member of the club who has not yet been involved with helping at an event and are interested please just let me know and I can explain some of the tasks.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you -
