Thanks to Steve Pullen who has created an interesting new maprun in Winchester for this season's maprun league.

The last date for this maprun, if you want your score to count towards the league is Thursday 5th May.

If you want to see others this Thursday, the run will start from 6.30  at the Winchester Sports Centre, SO2 9NR and the social from 7.30 at The Black Boy, 1 Wharf Hill, Winchester, SO23 9NQ. Pizzas are served on a Thursday evening.

I have been asked to lead some sessions on orienteering at the Sports Festival for primary school children on Thursday 23 June, from 9.00-3.30 at the new Winchester Sports Centre. If anyone is interested in helping me lead four basic introductory sessions to Orienteering on this day, please let me know. A free lunch and a souvenir t-shirt will be provided.

Monday 18th of April: relay day of this year's JK in South Wales. The relays were held at the MOD camp at Caerwent near Chepstow.

SOC had four relay teams this year:

• One Women's team comprising Christine Currie, Jane Morgan and Tamsin Moran entered in W 120+.
• One Junior team made up of Duncan Currie, Isla Ashton and Emma Currie entered the Junior M/W 40- class.
• Two Veteran Men 165+ teams consisting of:
  • Team 1: David Currie, Terry Smith and Ian Moran.
  • Team 2: Kevin Bracher, Colin Hicks and Lisa James.

The Veteran Men were in a field of 41 teams. David, Terry and Ian were a respectable 21st. Kevin, Colin and Lisa were unfortunately disqualified as an SI dibber did not register the final control on one leg.

Our Juniors were 5th in a field of 10. A great result for Duncan, Emma and their cousin, Isla.

Christine, Jane and Tamsin did the club proud, coming second in a field of 19. Christine and Jane kept the team in the hunt in 5th place after the first two legs. Tamsin, with the fastest 3rd leg run in the category, brought the team home to claim second spot, only 46 seconds behind the winning SYO team.

I would like to thank all our SOC runners for stepping up and representing the Club. For some, it was the third or even the fourth day of competition and, despite the tired limbs, there were some great performances.

Relays are really good for promoting club spirit and for members to meet and get to know each other. The JK Relays make it easier for clubs to enter teams with the combined age classes like the W 120+ and the M 165+ categories.
