By Helen Wheelwright , 20 January, 2022

Entries are now open on racesignup.co.uk for our finale  SOCSAT this season on Saturday February 12th at Royal Victoria Country Park. Come and see if you can fight for  the top spot in the league or just enjoy a gentle jog around a course then join us for a Valentines-themed Jammie Dodger or three!

Thanks to our IT whizz kids, we hope to be able to award prizes on the day to the winners in every league category, so if you think you are in with a chance, do come along.

After this event we will be offering a season of competitive mapruns in and around the Southampton area, so if you are new to maprun6, please bring your phone and we can help you try out a maprun course.

Looking forward to seeing you,

Helen

SOC Saturday events

I’ll be returning from Switzerland on that day so unable to take part in this event. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed helping or competing in these events. I’m looking forward to the next series of Map Runs - would you like me to create another one?

WNL9 - Farley Mount Country Park Results

Profile picture for user Mark Light
By Mark Light , 14 January, 2022

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who made it to the event last night despite hold-ups on the roads due to accidents.  It was a lovely evening for a run around the forest in the dark!

In hindsight, I think that I could have situated the start and finish a little better to have opened up route options, but I was trying to keep them close to the car-park with it being at night.  There were also a couple of controls sites which were perhaps a little mean for a night event...

I would like to thank in particular Terry Sankey for his assistance in organising the event and making it happen, and to both Moira and Lou for their support.  I also really appreciated Alastair, Tim, Bob, and Colin staying on after the event to help with control collection.  Many hands make light work!

I would like to back up…

I would like to back up Colin's comment by thanking Mark for all the hard work he put in beforehand and on the day. Thanks too to Alastair, Tim, Bob, Colin, Louise and Moira for their help to enable the event to happen.

Apologies to several runners who had problems with their Emit cards not recording as they should and thanks Mark for sorting it out in the results.

Well done to all who attended. The experience of running in the forest in the pitch darkness to the accompaniment of hooting owls must have been quite a contrast to the usual urban night events.

Well done to Mark, Terry,…

Well done to Mark, Terry, Moira and Lou for the night event. For my last one, which was some time ago, I was using a Petzl head torch with a massive battery behind my head and a small Edison incandescent light bulb (range 6 feet). This time I had a lightweight LED Petzl, which was far better. I was a bit rusty, but I did enjoy being alone in the freezing woods in pitch black,  listening to the screeching owls and wondering where I was! I'd recommend watching The Blair Witch Project for an idea of what it was like.
