Start time allocation has been carried out with reference to "BOF Rule 3", "Event Guideline B: Long Distance Events" and "Appendix L: Selection and Seeding" in so far as Appendix L can be applied to a Level B event. This essentially means that competitors may choose a class and a preference for an Early, Middle or Late start time.
We have processed entries throughout the period that entries were open. We have nominated seeded start slots at four minute intervals on each course. These slots have been staggered across the courses so that there may be only three or four seeded competitors starting at the same time.
Senior and Veteran competitors were invited to put themselves forward for seeding and we have allocated seeded start times to those entrants. We developed the following policy to prioritise the allocation of seeded slots if places were over-subscribed.
If the need arose, we would limit the number of seeded competitors in each age group where they share a course. There are seven premier age groups on the Blue course to share 45 seeded start slots over the three hour start period. The highest ranked competitors in each age group would be allocated seeded start times. Each age group would be guaranteed six seeded start slots. If less than six competitors in an age group ask to be seeded, those start slots would be allocated to competitors from other age groups who requested a seeded start time.
We were given specific guidance by the Selectors on those Juniors who should be given a seeded start time. Although many other Juniors requested consideration for selection, many of them competed with seniors and veterans for limited seeded start slots on some courses. Consequently we have only allocated seeded start times to the Juniors on the Selectors list.
As far as possible, we have applied "best practice" to separate runners from the same club competing on the same course. We have aimed to give those groups entering together broadly similar start times, typically with juniors starting before parents. We have tried to accommodate split start requests and requests for similar start times to others (some of whom hadn't entered!). We have also aimed to meet requests for starts at specific times. We have tried to spread start times on each course evenly across the start period but as a lower priority to meeting the objectives above.
It has not always been possible to meet specific requests, especially as the start list filled to near capacity on some courses as the closing date approached. The earlier you enter, the greater the chance of your wish coming true!
SOC hope that you enjoy the Forest at its best and are able to meet your personal aspirations at the event.
