SOCK Articles

By Jenny Jones , 5 September, 2016

Now that Summer is drawing to a close, its now time to look to the orienteering season ahead and the Autumn edition of SOCK. With many exciting events over the summer, I'm sure there are plenty of you that could write some brilliant articles - if you've never tried before, why not have a go this time?

Please could I have all articles, reports, photos, results, reminders or anything else you'd like included emailed to me at: news [at] socweb.org (news[at]socweb[dot]org) by Wednesday 21st September at the latest.

Also, I am still looking for both an Assistant Editor & Junior Editor to join the SOCK team! Neither of these jobs will be too much hardwork or take up too much of your time, but it will make my life a little easier - especially as I start my gap year placement on the 19th September. Please let me know if you're interested and we can discuss what the role would entail.

Thank you very much

Orienteering Assessors and Tutors

Profile picture for user Ian Moran
By Ian Moran , 2 September, 2016

SCOA is looking to recruit more Tutors and Assessors – mainly to help teach and assess our new coaches but also to use these skills with Planners & Organisers as we move towards Licencing Organisers and later, Planners.

If you are either a teacher or have Assessing experience in NVQs – or both!, why not consider using these skills in Orienteering?  You do not need to be a Coach / Organiser/ Planner or even be aspiring to become one of these – you just need the above skills and some time (of your choosing), to do the task.  If you are interested, please get in touch with Liz Yeadon, SCOA Coaching Officer (liz.yeadon [at] btinternet.com (liz[dot]yeadon[at]btinternet[dot]com)). Liz can then talk through with you what is involved, and help you decide if you want to go ahead.

If you already have one of the two basic qualifications/ experience, all that is needed is a one day refresher to bring you up to speed with the requirements of the British Orienteering Assessments/ tutoring.
