Summer running
Although not SOC activities, I'd like to highlight a couple of opportunities for running in which many club members participate. Firstly, Tuesday night runs in the New Forest are a long tradition within the club although the clientele is now more diverse. These consist of roughly an hour's group run on and off tracks each week over the summer, with the venue rotating around the Forest on a monthly basis. The pace is probably somewhere between 8 and 9 min/mile although we'll always go at the pace of the slowest on the night. Most importantly, we all decamp to the pub afterwards to restock on carbs and electrolytes! If you'd like to know more, including this month's venue, then drop me an soc [at] david.currie.name (email).
Secondly, the RR10 league takes place on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer. Each event is 4-5 miles and they are a fun and friendly way to get in some off-road racing with a wide range of abilities taking part. You'll need to be a member of one of the organising running club's to participate but after that there is no cost. See the website for more details. (Aside: and once you've joined a club, you can also take part in the free CC6 cross-country league over the winter months!)
