Solent Summer Series 1 - Fleming Park

Well, what a turnout! 107 competitors and with so many groups that must be getting on for 130 people who enjoyed Marcus White's parkland and urban courses.

Everyone looked like they had lots of fun out there. Personally I'd like to thank the two little girls who set up a drinks station out on the Light Green course between controls 13 and 14!

Plot your route on Routegadget be the map geek.

Staunton Country Park in two weeks time for the second event in the series. Hope to see you there!

Happy orienteering!

Pete

Organiser's Comments

What a great morning at Fleming Park. It was lovely to see so many newcomers to the sport. Pete's Facebook advert seems to have worked very well!

The Yellow course proved very popular with the familes, where the children had great fun punching the controls.

The weather made a great difference - the rain didn't start until the last starter.

I was pleased that the only person needing use of the First Aid kit was me - I sliced a finger open helping put up the tent!

Hopefully we will see lots of you again at our next event in 2 weeks time. Details will be on the SOC website.

SCOA Jun Squad event Sun 8 May

Profile picture for user Di Smith
By Di Smith , 7 April, 2016

The SCOA Junior Squad and BADO are staging a Middle Distance event on Sun 8 May on a new area near Newbury. All profits will go to the Junior Squad funds, so please try to support this event. The Junior Inter Regional Championships are near Aberdeen this year, so these funds will help to support their participation as well as the general running of the squad.

See the BADO website for details http://www.bado.org.uk/20160508flyer.pdf

SOC Successes at the JK 2016

Profile picture for user Ian Moran
By Ian Moran , 28 March, 2016

Well done to all the members of SOC who travelled to Yorkshire to compete at the JK, which is the largest annual orienteering event held in the UK. Day one was a sprint event held at Leeds University, day two and day three were cross country events with the times added up over the two days, held at Wass Forest in the North Yorkshire Moors and Kilnsey in the Yorkshire Dales, with the relay being held at Storthes Hall close to Huddersfield.  Notable results from SOC members were as follows. Apologies if I have left anyone out.

Sprint – Day 1

Philip Eeles 1st M60

Jane Morgan 3rd W55.

Tim Morgan 6th M20

Individual Events – Day 2 and 3

Anya Crocker was second overall on W21L over both days, two minutes down on the leader, with a third on day 2 and second on day 3.

Tom Bray had a great individual runs on both the long distance days coming 2nd and 5th respectively and 3rd overall just six minutes down on the leader.

Philip Eeles was second on the first race and 22nd on the long race coming 11th overall.

Tim Morgan who was second on M20E on day 3 and mention should be made of Chris Williamson who ran and completed the 20.1km M21E course on a very exposed Kilnsey , where many competitors were unfortunate to encounter some very nasty squalls including hail and causing many to retire.

Jane Morgan was seventh on W55L with a fourth and tenth position over the two days.

Relay – Day 4

Well done to the SOC ladies team who came third at today’s  relay. Jane Morgan ran first leg coming in first just 29 seconds in front of a very strong Bristol team who handed over to Mary Nixon on second leg. Mary had a great run handing over sixth place to Caroline Moran who managed to pull back three places bringing in the team in third place behind Bristol who were first and Happy Herts in second.
