BBQ (SOC members only)

By Webmaster , 29 June, 2015
Location
Hursley
Date
Fri 24th Jul 2015

SOC is holding a BBQ for members and their families on Friday 24 July at the IBM Hursley clubhouse from 6pm onwards. As in previous years, the club will provide the charcoal and you bring your own food to cook. You can also bring your own non-alcoholic drinks (alcoholic drinks must be purchased from the clubhouse bar).

By way of entertainment, Ian Wells is planning a Hidden In Plain Sight Orienteering (HIPSO) score course (along the lines of the Salisbury City Photo Trail) and Christine is proposing an orienteering themed bake-off (entries to be prepared in advance!). More details nearer the time.

Please send an email to captain [at] socweb.org (captain[at]socweb[dot]org) indicating:

  • If you're coming, how many you are bringing and whether you'd like a separate vegetarian BBQ.

  • If you'd like to run/walk the HIPSO course.

  • Whether you'd be interesting in submiting an entry for the bake-off.

Harvester Relays

Profile picture for user Kevin Bracher
By Kevin Bracher , 28 June, 2015

SOC entered two teams in the Harvester Relays Sunday 28th June.

We had a men’s team entered in the A class (7 runners) and a Women’s team (5 runners) entered in the B class.

The A class starts at midnight so the first four runners set off in darkness and the fifth runner hopes dawn is not delayed by cloud etc. The B class sets off at 01:30 and again the first three legs are in darkness.

Both teams performed well and enjoyed the event. Camping next to your alarm clock to be ready for your leg in the early hours of the morning.

We had a little rain in the early hours followed by a mist that delayed it getting light in under the trees. You have to be prepared just in case your late leg still requires a head torch!
