SOC Club Night, Wide Lane, December 1st 2009

1st December Club Night at Wide Lane 1930 - 2130

As a follow on to last months presentation on putting on a Local event, there will be a presentation on planning White, Yellow and Orange courses.

An explanation of the Rules and guidelines, tips on planning and a chance for Club members to try their hand at planning their own courses. As usual there will be time for general discussion, opportunity to mull over recent events (bring along your event maps), arrange travel to events or just socialize.

QECP Helpers Wanted

Jes Dickin is looking for helpers for the Colour Coded event at QECP on 13th December. It is a SCOA League event with a full range of courses (old C4 / District event) so we will need helpers for car parking, registration, results etc etc. Usual shift pattern so everybody gets a run.

I am also in need of volunteers to take on the string course and provide first aid cover for the event.

The good news is that as always all helpers get a ½ price run.

Junior Inter Regional Championships, Northern Ireland, 12-13th September 2009

[img_assist|nid=264|title=JIRC 2009 Prize Giving|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=200|height=143]One of the most important events in the year for the juniors is the Junior Inter Regional Orienteering Championships, which were held in Northern Ireland this year. The South Central Region (SCOA) sent a team of 18 to the event, which included three from SOC, Tim Morgan, Jamie Hicks and Tamsin Moran. The event consisted of an individual, which was held in the very picturesque surroundings of the Mountains of Mourne and a relay in Belvoir Forest close to Belfast.

Local MTBO Events

Trevor Bridle from Wimborne sends the following invite. This is an opportunity to give Mountain Biking Orienteering a go in the local area, and can also be combined with Foot-O courses as well. These are a great opportunity to try a new angle of Orienteering:

SOC at the Scottish 6-Days

Only a small number of SOC members attended the Scottish 6-Day International Orienteering Event based around Tayside (incorporating Fife, Angus and Perth & Kinross). Perhaps the spread of the events over a large area and the recent trek northwards for the JK may have been factors. Those that did go will remember it with great fondness, for as a 6-day first-timer, it was a truly memorable event.
